In the spotlight returns for another Christmas special with our Dutch legend, Nick Bouwens.
INTERVIEWER: Hi Nick, you last appeared on in the spotlight 3 years ago in our 2015 Christmas special. A lot has changed since then. What have been your highlights?
NICK: Haha... I remember that interview. It was my first interview ever and I had a shocker and kept on stumbling!...But yes, a lot of things have changed for me since then. I have ridden for 4 different teams; 1 2 Cycle, California Mist, jmtoler and DeRodeLantaarn. I enjoyed riding for all of these, especially 1 2 cycle where I was able to be based at home which was cool. My best result was winning the Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa Cup in Singapore when I was at jmtoler. That was a tough race....I was able to hold on from Al-Attar on the final climb after being in the breakaway all day!
INT: Since we are interviewing you during the Monte Rosa, how do you rate the teams chances here?
NICK: Its not started well for me! I've only just got back from the hospital after my crash today in the prologue. Looks like I've been lucky though and i'll be able to continue riding and support Augustin in the mountains. I hope we can defend the title... but it will be difficult with some of our big rivals in top form. I've not had time to properly check the results but it looks like Augustin and Ian both had good rides to keep us in touch in GC.
INT: You've had a great career and raced for some of the best teams on the ocm circuit... when do you think you will stop racing?
NICK: I will ride for as long as I am enjoying it. Coming back to Bilsky has given me a spark to go again and push on. I hope I can help bring a big result to the team before I end my career here.
INT: Finally, Nick, what has been the best moment of your career to date?
NICK: Tricky question.... i'd have to say when I won the Entrecasteaux GP during my first stint at Bilsky. Not many riders get to win a classic and I can say I've done it! But I have enjoyed my whole career so far. Getting to ride bikes for a living is pretty cool to be fair.
INT: Thanks for the interview Nick, have a good chrimbo...

Cool, 2017 was totally a better year than 2018. But then again, does this mean we have to put up with 2018 again?
